Today, we turn our gaze across the Atlantic back to the "Old World." Fastnacht, Fasching, Karneval — depending on the region, these festive celebrations go by different names and take on very different forms. From Mainz to Cologne to the Alemannic region, there are plenty of traditions to discover. And no: even though the Schlaraffen wear strange helmets, Schlaraffia is still not a carnival club.
